Visa to visit the UK

Hi,
I have somebody coming to stay with me during December and have sent them a formal letter of invitation as advised so that they can apply for a visa.
However I have just stumbled across another website which says he must also have:
-From Sponsor: a letter of invitation, evidence of their financial status available in the UK [photocopy
-Photocopies of sponsor's passport showing their immigration status in the UK
Is this definitely correct or will a visa be obtainable without this?
Thanks to anyone who can help.
Just my personal opinion...I think the hassle we must go through just for him to come and stay with me for ONE week is absolutely RIDICULOUS... since he is a student at university so it's inevitable that he will return to Turkey.

Thanks, sorry to sound stupid but does 'benim aşkım da gelebilir' mean?!
What should I send for 'evidence of their financial status available in the UK'?
Thanks!
