Hello, I am getting married in two weeks and as a child remember the bride wearing something red for luck in Turkiye. Does anyone know about this custom and any other customs/suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you!

I went to a Turkish wedding in Istanbul and the tradtional gift of gold bangles had a small red ribbon as did the coins. The bride wore white with the only red being the ribbons.

There is bound to be someone here who knows.

a white dress with a red ribbon around the waist area....it symbolises virginity..the ribbon is normally removable...the gold is also a very important part oh yes..and u also receive money from the guests..then each name is read out with the amounts that thwey have given to the bride and groom..the in laws usually give gold and this is put on the bride after the ceremony at the party..hope it helps

Thank you so much for your replies. I really appreciate it. Someone told it was because red symbolizes strength!

At the wedding I went to, there was no red ribbon around the waist and the gold bangles and coins were given straight after the ceremony whilst still in the registry office (or what ever it is called!) and all the guests were given a gift of the nazil as you greeted the bride and groom and met the parents and bridemaid.

All the guests then dissapeared for about 2/3 hours and eventually turned up at the huge restaurant. The bride and groom arrived about an hour after that. They then went round the tables and the bride had a little white bag and people then put money in. At no time was anyones name ever read out with the amount. It was all done very discretely.

After that we all began to eat and drink - raki, wine, beer, then the entertainment began. After a while the cake came and it stood around 6feet tall. I have never seen a cake so huge - around 6 tiers.

Next day - huge hangover!! It was the best wedding I have ever been too.
