Quoting Elisabeth:
It was several things. I work in healthcare, so I was able to convince him over time just how unhealthy it was. He used nicotine patches and he quit several times before he was successful. Really it just took time and lots and lots of encouragement. Of course quitting was much easier once he moved to the US. I think it is difficult for people living in Turkey because it is part of the culture. It is a terrible addiction. |
Why do you think Turkish men smoke much and can't succeed in quiting the habit. I am also a heavy smoker.

Because it's not a habit, it's an addiction. That's the big difference.
About the fact that Turkish people smoke a lot (not only men): I think society makes it easier and more acceptable. In my country, for some time now, there have been a lot of campaigns against smoking. Some people look at you in a strange way when you're a smoker or even treat you like an outcast. And since 3 days all restaurants are non-smoking.
I'm just stating facts here, I'd never judge because I used to smoke as well, and I'm still having a hard time not to fall into the trap again.

Elisa, you are right. It is an addiction. However it is becoming a habit by time. Like other smokers,I don't smoke every single cigarrete as I am addicted to nicotine and need some, but it is a kind of habit of hand and lips.

What I don't understand is how a woman can kiss a man who smokes - YUK! And the teeth all stained, fingers all stained, clothes that stink, heart trying to beat faster, lungs trying to gasp for breath, veins struggling to pump blood to vital organs (yes and that includes you know what!) blood being starved of oxygen, cholesterol building up,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I'll stop there - NOW COME ON YOU FELLA'S STOP SMOKING It is not cool, hip or trendy and just think of all the money you would have............
