this is not directly related to turkey hence it's appearance in this forum but it is a problem worldwide.
on christmas day i got a film called 'the apple' basically a documentary set in iran about two young girls who live in poverty and have been locked behind bars for all of the 11 years of their life.whilst watching this at first i felt a strong dislike for my mother who i perceived to have ruined my christmas however, as the film continued i began to feel more distressed that these 11 year old girls could barely speak or even walk as a normal 11 year old child should do.
this made me think how lucky i and all of us here are and how much we have and take for granted in our lives.these children were eating a two tablespoons of rice for their dinner whilst their father sang to allah asking him to take him from his life of drudgery.
all of us either own a pc or have access to a pc with the internet,we take things ike washing machines, refridgerators, sofas etc for granted as a necessity within a home.
this led me to think more about all the wastage in our society and how we throw things away or don't put them to good use whilst others yearn for such things.unfortunately society seems to have turned most of us into selfish, materilistic people who judge others based on their appearance, for example how many of us avoid tramps on the street or big issue sellers..i know i used to until a few years ago..
i think it's about time that we start sharing the things we have with those who have nothing.this doesn't have to be money but perhaps unwanted christmas presents or food with long shelf lives, even sharing and helping neighbours who are less fortunate than yourselves.
but for me the biggest problem is the lack of education for poorer children in some areas, the fact that these two 11 year old girls could not speak properly, walk properly or even know about the importance of cleanliness or what a spoon was for astonished me and i'm sure they are not the only ones...
anyway sorry for my do-gooder ramblings but i wanted to share my thoughts and hope i could encourage others to help those who aren't able to help themselves..
if people watched the film they would know why i feel so lucky at the moment for having the things that i have and opportunities that we all have
happy new year
