Over in the Practice forum I used the verb "kucaklamak" as a translation of "to hug" but an alternative of "sarılmak" has been suggested......

What is the difference in meaning of these two verbs when used in the context of hugging???

sarılmak and kucaklamak has the same meaning as "to hug" and "to cuddle"

So they are interchangable with no difference in meaning then?
Is one more commonly used than the other?

kucaklamak is maden by only one person, but sarılmak can be used for one or two.

kucaklaşmak is same to sarılmak for two people.

anne ve çocuk kucaklaştı = anne ve çocuk (birbirine) sarıldı (each other)

but

anne çocuğunu kucakladı = anne çocuğuna sarıldı

Be careful about the suffixes of the objects.
