When to say dumayi or duyduğum?
In a recent translation request Kemal suggested
"Onu duyduğum için mutluyum"
for "I am glad to hear from you"
instead of "dumayi mutluym". I might have written
"dumam mutluyum", but...
My request: a few examples of when to Onu duyduğum or Geldiğim instead of duym?am or gelmem. Thanks.

I dont understand your questıon very well but perhaps you asked when we use 'Possessıves' = gelme+ m (my comıng )/ duyma+m (my hearıng)well ,ıt ıs used wıth the verbs
' Istemek / beklemek ' (I dont remember others now )
for example
'I want you to be happy' ıs
' Mutlu olmaNı istiyorum'
' I expect hım to stay'
' KalmaSInı bekliyorum' = Literally = I expect HIS stayıng
I am sure someone else wıll add one accurate explanatıon!

You can use both 'öğren-diğim için' and 'öğren-diğime' if you use the verb 'memnun olmak'. But they are not interchangeable with every verb.
I am glad to hear from you./ Senden haber aldığım için(haber aldığıma) memnunum.
Bunu öğrendiğim için (öğrendiğime) memnunum.
Sınıfımı geçtiğim için (geçtiğime) çok memnunum.
But you can't say that,
Sınıfımı geçtiğime çok mutluyum.
You should say,
Sınıfımı geçtiğim için çok memnunum (çok mutluyum).

You can use both 'öğren-diğim için' and 'öğren-diğime' if you use the verb 'memnun olmak'. But they are not interchangeable with every verb.

But you can't say that,

Bu öğrenmekten memnun oldum.

No. The above sentences are not true according to Turkish grammar rules.

Looking to my own confusion on that subject, perhaps the confusion is because there are two phrases that would come out similarly in English. (I'll use a different verb)
Sizinle tanişmaya sevineceğim.
I will be glad TO MEET YOU.
Sizinle tanıştığıma sevindim.
I was glad TO MEET YOU.
The first one is about something that will or might take place, but hasn't yet, so no -dik/dik/duk/dük ending is appropriate.
The second one says that I've met you and I'm glad for it. The meeting has taken place. "I am pleased at-my-having-met you."

Your sentence is ok as grammar but sounds weird.
This is better:
Sizinle tanıştığıma sevineceğim.
-dık is not related to past here.

sazji, I think, we don't use such a structure as above in Turkish. I mean that the below structure is not correct:
inf.(verb stem + me/ma)+ e/a +sevin +Tense ending+Pers.end
tanış + ma +(y)a + sevin +ecek+ im
So, if we translate the below sentence as I have shown in the bottom, it will be more appropriate.
I will be glad TO MEET YOU.
Sizinle tanışmaktan memnun olacağım.

so for example is
"Türkçe bilmeğe iştiyorum" is not correct.
should it be written
"Turkce bilmekten arzu oliyorum"?
