I understood that since the foundation of the Turkish Republic that it was illegal to wear a fez in public. However, in İstanbul I saw quite a few shops selling fez!!!

Can anyone explain further?

it might bring some insight, but at the same time it is sooooooooooooooo boring I still haven't finished it!!
