My favourites come from Margareth Atwood's "Diary of a Handsmaid." Unfortunately I never actually got to read it in English - so I'm just translating them from the Polish version:
"There are escapes that people find inside them if only they find something sharp"
"There are more than one kind of freedom: freedom of and from something"
"Paintings depict motion in suspence, waiting, objects that are not moving. Paintings depict boredom. But, perhaps, boredom has an aesthetic value, when women do it for men."
"Forgiving is power. Begging for them is power, refuting it or giving it is power, perhaps the biggest of all"
"God can grant us heaven - that's what we need him for. We can grant hell ourselves on our own."
"Knowledge is temptation. The Fall of Men was just a transition from unawareness to knowledge."
"Better never means better for everybody. It is always worse for some"

...I have no idea...but be sure it was no cavemen that came up with such an intelligent quote!
Actually the quote has been quite popular among feminists and lesbians over the years...I had a tshirt with that quote when I was young...a couple of hundred years ago!
