WELCOME TO TURKEY

Turkey is a paradise of sun, sea, mountains and lakes that offers the holiday maker a complete change from the antieties and routine of everday life. From April to October, most parts of Turkey have an ideal climate, providing perfect conditions in which a visitor can relax on the sandy beaches or enjoy the peace of mountains nad lakes.

Turkey has a magnificient past, and is a land full of historic treasures covering thirteen successive civilizations. Even a person who spends a little time in Turkey can see something of this great past.

There is no doubt that one visit will not be enough, and you will want to come back again and again as you discover one extraordinary place after another. All of them, no matter how different, have one thing in common, the friendly and hospitable people of this unique country.

WHEN TO GO


Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean Coasts:
These coasts have a typical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The swimming season becomes shorter the further north one goes:Marmara and North Aegean-June to September, South Aegean and Mediterranean-April to October.


Black Sea Coast:
Temperate climate with warm summers, mild winters and relatively high rainfall.


Central Anatolia:
These areas have a steppe climate with hot, dry summers; cold winters.


Eastern Anatolia:
Long snowy, cold winters with mild summers.


Southeast Anatolia:
These areas have a hot summer with mild,rainy winters.

FRONTIER FORMALITIES


PASSPORTS AND VISAS

1)Nationals of the following countries can enter Turkey with a valid passport; a visa is not required:

A)Up to 3 Months
Germany, Argentina, Australia, Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, United Arap Emirated, Denmark, Marocco, Fiji, Finland, France, Granada, South Korea, Holland, Iran, Switzerland, Iceland, Jamaica, Japan, Canada, Qatar, Kenya, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Monaco, Norway, Oman, St. Lucia, San Marino, Seychelles, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Chili, Trinidad-Tobago, Tunisia, Vatican City, New Zealand, Greece, Ecuador, Sweden.

B)Up to 2 Months
The Republic of Craotia, The Republic of Slovenia, Bosnia-Hezegovina, Romania, Macedonia

C)Up to 1 Month
Bolivia, Kazakhistan, Kyrgyzistan, The Republic of South Africa

2)For the countries mentioned in above clauses and Bulgaria a transit visa is not required

3)Nationals of the following countries require a visa:

A)USA, Austria, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Israel and Portugal can obtain a sticker visa at border gates (Up to 3 Months).

B)Nationals of the Commonwealth of Independent States (except Kazakhistan and Kyrgyzistan), Hungary, Poland, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia can obtain a sticker visa at border gates (Up to 1 Month).

C)Nationals of Guatemala and Sri Lanka can obtain a visa for up to 15 days at border gates.
Nationals of Jordan up to 30 days
Nationals of Indonesia can enter the country for two months by obtaining a visa at no charge at the border gates

D)Nationals of all other countries require a visa which may be obtained from the nearest Turkish embassy or consulate.

CURRENCY REGULATIONS

Limits: There is no limit on the amount of foreign currency that may be brought into Turkey, but no more than $5000 worth of Turkish currency may be brought into or taken out of the country

Exchange Slips: The exchange slips for the conversion of foreign currency into Turkish Lira should be kept, since you may be required to show these when reconverting your Turkish Lira back into foreign currency, and when taking souvenirs out of the country (to prove that they have been purchased with legally exchanged foreign currency).

Some extra information: countries named at point 1. sometimes do need also a visa stickers like the countries named at point 3. People from my country for example, Holland, do need also that sticker and pay for it (not much, just 10 euro) and people from Danmark do not need to pay anything but I don't know if they need a sticker or not.
