Many expressions seem to use 'El+suffixes"

"benim elimden birsey gelmiyor"

"yoldan çiktim elinde"

Literal translations seem to fail. It seems that "in the hand of" is meant in the larger sense of personal control?

Teşekkürler

benim elimden birşey gelmiyor. --> I cannot help you on this. You cannot have help on this 'from my hands'.
It is out of my capabilities or control depending on the context.

yoldan çıktım elinde. --> I was out of way(my character/personality) because of you. I tried to do whatever you said and that caused bad things.
'In your hands' means under your control.
Say; someone who tries to effect your behaviors. Like your lover, your boss, your friends etc.

Ah! Examples:
--Valla, Ayşe Hanım, bu durumda benim elimden pek birşey gelmez. Müdürle bir konuşun isterseniz.
-Well, Mrs.Ayşe, I cannot help much in this situation. Talk to the manager if you want.

-Bana 1000000 YTL daha borç verir misin?
*Elimden gelen herşeyi yaptım senin için. Artık elimden daha fazla birşey gelmez.
--Could you lend me 1000000 YTL more?
**I did my best for you. I cannot help more on this anymore.

-Öğrenciler öğretmenin ellerinde yetişirler.
--Students improve in the hands of their teachers.

-Senin elinden neler çektim anlatamam.
*I cannot tell how much I suffered because of your control over me.

I hope other people will give more examples on them. I couldn't make clear sentences on the second one.

Regards,

elinden geleni yapmak - to do all one can

ele gelmek - to come in handy

elinden gelmek - to be able to do

elden geldiği kadar - as much as one can
