yes, it can be correct to say "going to go..."
ex. i am going to go shopping
i think with this sentence "i am going to go take a shower", it is an american thing...i have heard many of my american friends say sentences like this.

You can't say this, it is not correct.
The correct sentence is "I am going to take a shower"
