Hi all,
I want to send a greeting card to my fiancee's mum but am unsure what service to use, whenever I send cards or letters they never arrive unless I address them to a company address, example bank. I want the card to get there for the 12th May is it best to use a service with a signature or just use normal post office services?

Hi Loveprague - in my very small experience of sending letters/cards to Turkey )i.e about four times )
the only time it was received was when I sent it special delivery - signed for - label available from post office.
Hope it gets there in time

Quoting Loveprague:

I sent a small parcel (half A4 envelope size) to a friend in Istanbul last week Tuesday, the addressee received it that same week on Saturday, so that was only 5 days..
In general I've never had problems with mail not reaching its destiny really..
You do put enough stamps right?

Hi reBooped,
Thanks I have had the same experiences, it is a card for my fiancee's mum for her birthday, I wanted to send her one as they do not really receive cards for birthdays.

I had an unusual experience sending an airmail letter that had a poor address/incomplete. After mailing it...the recipient never received it, however, I did receive it
8 months later saying 'undeliverable'. hehe the letter took an eight month trip from california, usa to Adapazari Turkey and back to me! Thats nearly a trip around the world! I have sent post since and though it takes a while...some do get there, but not all. What happens to the other mail? dunno I sent a priority mail package a month or so ago...still dont know if it has been received.

It's a bit strange. Ok, sometimes cards disappear on the way, but not always. Forexample my cards I sent from France to Turkey have all arrived just a bit late like 15 days, but arrived. Maybe, the problem is in the UK postal service

But I want to note that in Turkey it works really very slowly, my parents in İstanbul once sent a letter to an adress within İstanbul, and it arrived after 3 work days

Geez, you folks are making me nervous. I want to send a package to Turkey through the post office. It's some stuff animals for my friend's nephew.

He told me to address it to the center post office where he'll pick it up. Is that weird or normal? He said don't send it to my home address.

Once, I had something sent to center post office too, and later I could get it from there.

Not always, a parcel send from Holland to Turkey arrived after 9 days (just as Dutch post told me) and a parcel from Turkey to Japan arrived in 5 days (while it takes most 8 from Holland). So Turkeys post is not always slowly working.

Well I have sent a number of parcels to Turkey in the past. I think out of the 7 or 8 parcels (letters etc) I think only 4 of them made it to their destination!
If you are posting to the busy cities I think you have a better chance.

Unless it's really important I tend to save them up now and take them with me!
