A Japanese friend of mine is getting married in June, when I'm in Turkey. So I thought sending him a present by mail from Turkey. Can someone give me an idea of a Turkish wedding present? I heard something about a special kind of golden coin or so. What is that, where can I buy and what will it approximately cost?

I heard that people give gold in any form, but... I'm not sure if you'd like to do that . Maybe it would be better to find a Japanese-style gift bought in Turkey, I don't know if they would appreciate the cultural differences.

Thanks Catwoman and Yuzu. Any idea of what special Turkish gift? I already have sent him last year a Nazar and lots of candy (he is a sweet tooth). A carpet is a bit too heavy (and too expensive) and I must consider weight. A bottle of good raki would be nice (he likes a drink) but I'm afraid a bottle will not survive the trip by mail to Japan. So......?

I thought that the coin-idea was rather nice, if you write an explanation next to it? Because then its really something that has to do with a wedding, and bought by a foreigner in a foreign country too
Or maybe you can pick something more 'regular' and send 'kına' .. though that specifically would be if your friend is a woman
