In a movie I watched lately, when people where having a conversation, I heard them say "sebep?" sometimes where "niye, neden" could be used. Did I totally mishear this or can it be used like that?
Trying to understand Turkish in a movie is still quite an ordeal for me

yes it can be used instead of the word "neden" or "niye"

you can use the word "sebep" in two ways. one of the way is you can use it as a question which means "what is the reason?" btw if you use it in a phrase as a single word it just means "reason". To make it more simply:

sebep? or sebep ne? = What is the reason?, Why?
sebep sensin= The reason is you.
