the verb girmek does make sense but how was it conjugated from girmek to girip?

ummmmm i know why but i cant explain ,its got something to do with shortening the sentence
for example today i am going to wash my hair and i am going to take a bath
but when they use ip, it shortens it to
today i am going to wash my hair and take a bath
wait 
someone will explain it much better than i can im sure
