Generally you should apply to a Turkish Embassy, show your material sources in order to prove that you will be able to live in Turkey for a period of time you want to stay. If you have a job, you will have to prsent you salary or to show your bank account's statement. If you are a student, it can be money on your account or some scholarschip. Or you can submit an invitation from sb who lives in Turkey - generally this is the easiest way, but to get invitation the person who invites you has to fullfill some conditions, eg ear enough money to support you and has to have a house etc

And the period of viza you can get on the airport depends on the country you come from: for some countries eg. Ukraine is about 2 weeks, for Poland is one month, for USA is three months.

Yes. You should be more specific.
If you want to stay in Turkey for:
- Work: you need to show the Embassy the papers/contract that officialy prove that you have a job in Turkey. (First applying for a visa and then looking for a job wont be the most succesful way, they want you to prove you are already hired).
- Study: show the results of an exam that allows you to enter a turkish university/institute. So called 'Öğrenciler belgeleri' are given by the educational institute, proving you paid your tuition and are in the schoolprogramme for the time that you ask in your visa application.
- Holiday: If you want to stay logner than the normal tourist-visa, you will need the invitiation of a friend in Turkey, who will state in a special invitation letter to take responsibility over you.
---
In all 3 cases you will need to prove you have enough money on your bankaccount to look after yourself.
In my case (it depends on nationality and type of visa), i had to show that I had 3000$ and had to pay 70 YTL for the visa. Before this, I had to pay 50€ at the Turkish Embassy in Holland.

One month before departure is not that much time, so if İ were you Id immediately contact the Turkish embassy in the nearest place. You can take the risk of coming on a tourist visa and then trying to extend it, but this won't always work. It is always best to arrange before departure.
