From music I notice that Turkish has several words for "heart".
"yürek, kalp; gönül, can; göğüs; vicdan; merkez, orta"
Which one(S) is more about the bodily organ and which are about emotions?

As far as I know (but I don't know very much yet ...)
I'd say that "merkez" and "orta" don't mean human heart, but the centre of something (the heart of the city).
Dilmer = dil merkezi.
Can = soul.
Kalp is the real organ (kalp krizi = heart attack).
Gönül is the heart that we use when we love someone (gözden ırak olan,gönülden de ıraktır)
Gögüs must be the front part of the chicken that we eat (but i'm not sure !).
Yürek must also mean the feelings, and I don't know the other one.

My Turkish teacher once explained the difference between kalp, gönül and yürek to me like this:
Think of the word when we add sız to the end (this ending means without):
kalpsız - means heartless. kalp is the tender, kind side to the heart. Place where kind thoughts and feelings grow.
gönülsüz - means unwillingly. gönül is the will, or desire, side to the heart. Place where our wants and desires are formed.
yüreksiz - means cowardly. yürek is the brave and strong side to the heart. Place where we "take heart", where our determination and courage lives.
Does this help?

Glad you liked it. I am just passing on what I learned from someone else ... just like one beggar telling another beggar where to get bread
