Howdy.

I just joined this forum a few days ago and wanted to introduce myself. I am an American soldier currently in Iraq. I've got a lot of downtime with my job, so I decided to try my hand at Turkish because a few of the contractors and merchants we deal with are Turks.

This site seems great for a beginner, and I look forward to learning something new here.

hi howdy I am really surprised to hear you say there are turkish merhchants and suppliers to the american army in iraq. My bf told me that turkey is against the iraq war, so why would they make money from it?

Even though Turkey is against the war, they still have a vested interest. Remember, Turkey and the US have been allies for a long time now. Both countries need each other, like or not. They may not agree with the war, but US & Turkish soldiers have worked together on missions in Iraq in the past. So, it doesn't surprise me at all that there are suppliers.

Fact of life is that many Western countries have a vested interest in various wars around the world, like it nor not, but the original poster is new to this site and I am sure he will not want his post to get embroiled in further war related issues. So please lets give him a welcome.

I don't think that it means you are not welcome Pink (nor reklov77) but it doesn't happen that often here that people really introduce themselves and they are welcomed by others, just sometimes. Anyway: welcome!

Unfortunately you 'buried' reklov77's post by talking about the war. Welcome to both of you - this is a great and very friendly site!

I'm probably his/her biggest fan here, so please don't make this post anymore than it is. "Welcome reklov77, one American to the other".
