I'm planning to go to Turkey and I intend to travel alone. Alot of people around me are against it , which is nothing new. They've been telling me awful stuff and lately I've been quite disheartened somehow. Has anyone travelled to Turkey ALONE? Care to share the experience, dos and donts and what to expect? Given that someone will fetch me at the airport, is it still unsafe? I'm still not giving up the idea of travelling alone though but hearing from other people experiences will help. A Lot.

O course there will be some unwanted hit ons. But I guess every girl used to it a little bit. Show your cute side, keep travelig with a group. You will be safe as in your country.

Just tell your friends and family that Turks are a very social, community orientated group who look after lone travelers.

I have got on a bus, and asked the person next to me to help me get off at the right place. BEcause they were getting off before me, they made sure that the other passengers knew and would help me: I became a community project!

If all that fails, remind them that mobile phones cover nearly 99.5% of the country, so if you take your phone with you you will always be safe.

As a tip for you, if you happen to meet the one in a million guy who is a pain even when you make it clear to him you ain't interested, try the phrase "teyze, bu adam beni rahatsiz ediyor" and address it to an older lady on the bus/in the hotel or restaurant etc. She will then lay in to him in a loud voice, and he will slink away ashamed!!

It works really well on a crowded city bus, when the young guy is standing TOOO close, right crushed up next to the foreign girl .... often Turkish girls will just put up with it in silence, but I reckon shaming them doesn't bring any shame to me!!!

Totally agree. Had been there when ı was 16, ı was all silent but some guy saw what happens by luck, he beat for good the pervert and throw him out of the bus with the assistence of rest of the bus and driver
