Why is "I miss you" said in a past-tense?

Seni çok özledim = I missed you much..
Something i would say when i see my bf back after not seeing him for a couple of months..

Seni çok özlüyorum = I am missing you much..
Something that is going on right now?

And why actually not just
Seni çok özlürüm = I miss you (not sure this is correct tho)

Because it is something you do daily, a fact?

miss_ceyda: im not sure of the exact reason although i am aware that it is done a lot in TR. for example.. if someones calling u and u wanna tell them that u will be there staright away, u can say "geldim" in oppose to "geliyorum"...

miss_ceyda: i think "seni çok özledim" is the TR equivalent of "i really miss you" even though its not the literal translation.

miss_ceyda: it is actually- "özlerim" not "özlürüm" dw! u will soon get the hang of all of these too! there was a time when i wouldnt have been able to know the difference
anyway.. this tense does not only mean sth. which u do everyday but also something u intend to do.
eg:
onu yaparım= i will do it
seni isterim= i will want u
seni özlerim= i will miss you

and i think if u have to be careful with where u use that to avoid confusion

also.. i think that many people, including myself.. should learn grammer rules etc. of english before trying to learn TR..
for example.. until i began ot learn turkish it never occured to me that english does not have a proper future tense..
we have:
1 i went
2 im going
3 im going to go

whats 3 all about?? going to go?? even though we do say that its not actually correct.. the correct future tense for english is actually like number 2 there...

English does have a future tense.. it is constructed with the word 'will' . Also 'shall' can be a constructionword for future tense. The Turkish way of future 'ecek' is implied/a suffix of the word self, but that doesnt mean that the English contruction is not a future tense. It just depends on how you construct it.

And i think Turkish also has the word 'going to' as a future tense..

Saying this would also mean, that Turkish language doesnt have the verb 'have'. Turkish does, but it is constructed in a different way: My car there is. I have a car.

Each language just has its own way of constructing things, it depends on what ur used to.
