"Suggest ways to make the boss more popular with the team."
If someone can explain well, or translate to Turkish very well, it'll be good for me.

İ dont know what team,but it means
You make some suggestions so when the boss of the team follow them,the team will like him more.

İ dont know what team,but it means
You make some suggestions so when the boss of the team follow them,the team will like him more. |
Team as workers together; you, your workmates etc.

Well caliptrix,if you are a manager,or a coach,or something like that,and you are leading a team.
So you must collect people arround you so you can lead them better.
So this sentence is asking about new ways,and some suggestions anyone can make them to that manager,so when he follows those suggestions,his team will like him more.
Being popular with the team,meaning having more fame exactly like movie stars,when they are popular means people love them.
İ wish thats make it closer.

Here is the full text, but if I understand well, there is contradiction. But I don't think so, I believe I misunderstood this.

If your boss is unpopular, there's very little you can do to change that perception.
Try this instead:
When boss-bashing takes place beyond his earshot, don't join the fray. Instead, give the boss credit for things he does well. When the department spy (there always is one) reports back to the boss, he'll learn that you're an ally.
Example:
"Yeah, Joe loses his temper sometimes. But he's really good at defending our interests in front of the budget committee."

"Myth" should say the same idea as "conventional wisdom", and the reverse idea of "try this instead"
so, what is the myth here exactly and what is that we should try?

The Myth is to follow ways you can use them to support your boss among your follow workers,or among his managers too even if he wasnt popular
Dont fight him and support him to help to make the team interact smoothly.
Exactly as in the example,
Obviously the boss loses his temper much,so although he is saying he lose his temper 'which is a fact' he says something to the boss benefit which is he defending their interests .

I f your boss is not so popular with your collegues, suggest him some ways to make him popular. That way, you will be on your boss's side, rest of the team is on the other side. Nice way to butter up your boss.

The text is trying to show why NOT to suggest ways to make the boss more popular. It says, that you MAY THINK that it will help (because you believe that the boss will appreciate it- that's the myth), but it won't (you can't change things that way). So it suggests a different way instead.

As a native speaker I agree with Ayla.
Myth = Something everyone believes to be true but really isn't
Conventional wisdom = information that everyone thinks is true, but may or may not be. e.g. Until a certain point in history conventional wisdom was that the earth is flat. Now conventional wisdom is that it is round.
Because the text refers to the idea as a myth, we can see that the author is disagreeing with conventional wisdom.
So ... the author is saying that you shouldn't come up with ideas to make the boss more popular, because this strategy will not work. And, as Ayla says, an alternative is recommended.
Just one little "culture" point on what Aslı said .. if a UK boss is a good boss, they will be wary of people trying to butter them up. If my team members were over the top in praising my dress-sense or make-up or hair-style today I knew I had to look hard to see what mistake they were trying to cover up! "Apple for the teacher" may make a boss concerned that you are always sucking up to them, and they don't get an honest opinion out of you.
