It is like "that he/she may do something" in English or "let him/her do something".

alasın - that he/she may get or let him/her get
gidesin - that he/she may go or let him/her go

e.g. Ali için otobus bileti aldım, Samsun'a gidesin diye.

It is not a very often used.

The more usual related grammar parts are:

1) -elim
Let us do something, or that we may do something

e.g.
gidelim - Let's go
gidelim mi? Shall we go

and

2) -eyim
Let me do something, or that I may do something

Yardımcı olayım mı ? Shall I help you?
Ali'yle görüşeyim diye evine gittim I went to Ali's house that I might see him.

To be honest, I learned -ayım and -eyim from a grammar book, and have probably never used them and hardly ever heard them used in modern turkish speech. You are more likely to come across them in poetry.
