literally it means "my life".

but i think it is usually used to mean "my dear".

i have turkish friends that use it as a term of endearment amongst their family and close friends.

and it is pronounced with the "ı". so it is canım.

My fiance got in trouble by me for using this as a way to end a conversation, but it was to a close guy friend apparently. "Canim benim, opuyorum seni". I still have my doubts but he showed me the caller ID when I asked him who that was, and it said "Orhan". He said he uses this as a way to end a call to his family or close friends. Just before "Gorusunuz...hadi hadi bye bye." Other Turkish people have told me this is believable because he is a very friendly person. Do guys say this to other guys? I only know a dangerous amount of Turkish!

We had a thread about this very recently. Canım is used between friends of the same sex, regularly, just as "hun" is used in the US and "love" in the UK.

Anyone got any terms of endearment for men in particular?

I think Aşkım is used all the time...what else can you use if you're speaking to your partner?

Ok Askim Cem is officially out of trouble...WHEW...this site is so helpful. I use "Benim Maymunim" but that is 'my monkey'...I don't think you want to use that one your significant other. This one has a story and a picture.
