Meaning of the word “Turk”

Sources gives many meaings to the word “Turk!”
Chinese says the meaning of Turk is Tu-kie, which is helmet (casque), Islamic sources called turk as “abondoned or adolescence-hood” and the other varients.

According to A.Vambery, The famous thinker of XIX century. The word “turk” ‘s came from “to multiply”. The ıntellectual Ziya Gökalp, decribes it as “TÜRELİ” which means “ Law, princible”

Yes, sure, but, I am looking for alternative suggestions other than those that are already out there in the form of Chinese sources. What is the etymology of the word Turk as an ethnonym in Turkish, not in Chinese or any other tongue.

I see what you mean. In the sense that tur+e+mek is related to tur+uk... Multiplication type (tur). Intresting.

My "Old Turkish Grammar" book (by A. Von Gabain) says "Türk" means strong.

I have found this link thru google, which gives another explaination.
