I don't know if it is the same throughout Turkey, but I can share my experience. My fiance's fther passed in March after a very long sickness. They had to bury him by the next day. But, first, all of the men (uncles cousins etc...) went to the mosque and washed the body and then wrapped it in a sheet.

The imam came to his home for I think 3 , but maybe 5 nights, and said prayers. (the whole family came too).

His mother and sisters weren't allowed to cook in the kitchen- for a month or longer. Everyday, different family members or friends brought meals for the entire family.

When we went to visit his fathers' grave this summer, Omer pumped a lot of water into big jugs and poured it all over the grave. I did too. Then we said prayers and left. He goes every week to pour water on the grave to "cool" down his fathers body.

The 40th night after the death is also a special holy night when the imam may come to the house and say prayers and friends and family will be invited to join in too.
