Hi... new here... and to Turkish

Trying to figure this sentence out: "Olmalimi olmamalimi?"

"ol" is the verb "to be"?

Extra "ma" in second word is negation?

"i" at end is third person singular possessive?

If so, what is the "mali" part in both words?

"His being, his not being?" ... with something missing?

At first i thought the endings were "alim" + "mi" but the interrogative "mi" is never appended to words, is it?

Thanks,

Robert

Something like "Should it be/happen, should it not be/happen?"

The parts are:

Ol (root of to be/to happen) mali (necessitive - must/should) mi (question marker)

Ol (root of to be/to happen) ma (negative suffix) mali (necessitive - must/should) mi (question marker).

Olmali mi olmamali mi - Can be "Should it be/happen or shouldn't it be/happen?" as Turks don't always use "or".

The use of -meli/-mali is explained in this lesson:
http://www.turkishclass.com/grammar_must_have_to.htm

I don't understand it well enough yet to be able to explain it accurately but -meli is used to denote that something must happen or be so.
