Can you explain why 'hastane' is used in the genitive state but 'okul' is in the nominal state?

okul hastanenin carprazinda means the school is opposite the hospital,in this sentences you want to describe the school's place and you want to emphase it.

opposite is "karşısında"
Does a native speaker use in this way? I would be grateful if a native or bilingual speaker will tell me that.

thats why i couldnt find it in my dictionary i thought it was opposite but it threw me because of the spelling
