i read in a turkish text book : Atatürk Havalimanı...and i'm confused...because when i looked it up in the online turkish dictionary i found the havalimanı=airport, and according to the book, it should be "havaliman"...or it would have become "Atatürk Havalimanısı", right?
also, there was this sentence "Melek arabaya aşık oldu." according to the book, "aşik olmak" means "to fall in love with", but i can't understand...because in the dictionary, "aşık" means "anat. astragalus, talus, anklebone, hucklebone."...so i'm confused...
and thirdly, there is an advertisement i can't understand...it says "altınsuyu, aile çay, bahçesi", wat is it trying to sell?
can anyone help?  sagol!!!

hi
Turkish is begining-added, mid-added , and end-added language. There are a lot of suffixes and prefixes.In general, when two nouns get together (such as "hava(air) + liman(port)" ), 2th noun takes the letter "ı - i" (havaliman-ı . In addition, sometimes first noun of these two nouns takes the suffix "ın - in - un ".Actually this is the same with "of"...
Example...
çocuk-lar-ın top-u ..... ball of children
ALSo, you said "aile çay bahçesi".They dont sell anything. Aile Çay Bahçesi is something like café where families go there to sit, talk, be relaxed and especially to drink tea, coffe etc...

Melek arabaya aşık oldu
this is a figurative using.It is very common in tukish.Maybe the more familiar you are , the more you face that.
"Melek arabaya aşık oldu" means that Melek was fascinated by the car.Melek liked the car very much...

asik, if pronounced with a long "a" means "one in love"
simply pronounced with a short and sharp "a", it means anklebone.

thank you i understand wat you meant, but since there is "Atatürk" before "Havalimanı", shouldn't we add "sı" to "airport" ? like "Marmara üniversitesi"...

altınsuyu must be the name of that cafe.
altın: gold
su: water
altın suyu is made from altın and suyu words. It is not necessary to be meaningful for special names, but it may also be a meaning, because of something like historical background, or a legend from that place etc.

But havalimanı is a merged word: hava+liman
üniversite is only one word.
another example:
buz+ dolap= buzdolabı
ice+ cupboard= refrigerator 
Now if you put a noun related to it before it, it won't have another suffix:
Arçelik buzdolabı
