As for me, Armstrong is the greatest player ever-ever.
But my favourite is Miles Davis.
I like his clear sound. I am thrilled to find his sound in such a variety of styles. He fusions jazz with electronical, rock, even hip-hop and rap, having a major contribution in succesfully bringing jazz sound in different music styles.

I like that he successfully quits drog addiction.

I love to discover his sound in the sound track of Elevator to the Scaffold, i like his album with Marcus Miller, Siesta, i like Doo-Bop, him playing with Parker, John Coltrane, Hancock and so on.

I think as for the complexity of his musician career -his 'fruitful career' as Vineyards said- and his contributions in jazz, Davis is 'the best'.
And i also think he is a very good improviser.
