Just a small addition: the type of icecream described in the article is not 'dondurma', as dondurma is the normal translation for icecream in general. Thus also the icecream that doesnt contain 'mastic', which is mentioned in the article.

Icecream with mastic is found around Çeşme a lot and can be bought under the name 'damla sakızlı' (with drops of gum).

Actually I have never really heard the word 'mastic' being used in Turkey (however it is used in greece), most people refer to it as 'damla sakızlı dondurma' and can be bought in all possible tastes.

I think that is different though! I ate both, and maraş icecream is wonderful, but I didnt like the famous Damla sakızlı icecream of Çeşme.

As far as the article mentions the icecream being cut, I know that you can cut Maraş icecream because it is REALLY strong. You just sort of 'bite' it off your icecream, but damla sakızlı is very sticky.

I am certainly sure that damla sakızlı contains mastic, but I dont know about maraş. I think that it is thickned by sahlep (powder).

Anyway I vote for the latter!
