well, i remember a dinner with turkish people. they wanted to be very friendly so they did their best and made us something ...ahm...i'm not sure what it was but it was that thin bread with vegetables in it. it was unbelievably HOT. and we tried as hard as we might not to show them that we actually cried trying to eat it

Hello to everyone!
I like turkish food too, even russian food is totally different from turkish. I like karniyarik, yaprak dolma, imambayildi, su boregi. But most I like desserts -baklava, kadayif...And of course at the end of heavenly food I like to have strong şekersiz Turkish tea(this is my favourite).

I also love Turkish food. I am trying out some of the recipes from the links in this site. They are pretty good. I have to learn to cook Turkish food for when a friend comes to stay with us for 1 year. I have promised his mother I will look after him like a real Turkish 'anne' heheh.
When I went to stay with him and his mother in February, she taught me to make a carrot starter which is delicious, in fact we eat it everyday in my house.
I must say none of the food I ate at their house was at all spicy, this was also true when i stayed with her sister in Izmir, we also ate out in Izmir in proper Turkish restaurants, rather than 'tourist' places and that food was also not spicy. I suppose there are regional differences.
I have to confess to loving baklava also - sooooo fattening, but yummy! mmmmm........
I also used to drink something in the Pasthane which I can't remember the name of. It was served hot and was a sort of creamy white colour. It was quite thick and sweet. It tasted a bit like apples and cinnamon to me, but I could be wrong. It was something like 'sirrip'anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks

Turkish I know say that baklava I make is very good. Me and my POlish friends from university prapared once a Turkish Evening. We prepared turkish food, tea, cofee, music, pictures from Turkey etc. and invited our friend and all the Turks we knew, especially from university, teachers and students. I made my baklava. They couldn't believe that I didn't bring it somehow from Turkey

Seticio , it's really unbeliviable. Even my mother can't do baklava. Congratulations.
By the way, if you like baklava, you must go to Gaziantep. Belive me, their baklava is much more delicious than others. If you come to İstanbul, you can find the best baklava in Arnavutköy, a small shop called "Baklavacı". They bring baklavas from Gaziantep daily. I advice you to go before noon, otherwise it is riskly to find anything to buy.
