I have entered the Turkish word for 'December' into the Dictionary and below is what is came up with.

Now i am really confused ! Why are theere so many words listed for the word Aralik which i thought was the meaning for December ?

I dont want to be sending emails asking about visits to the toilet when i want to ask about visits in december.

Would someone please be so kind to explain why one word has so many meanings

Hi janette, now you know why it is a difficult language to learn. There are a lot of turkish words that can mean so many things. When you put words into a conversation they come into there own. So it can mean lots of things but in the context of a message or conversation a word will make sense.

As I have learned so far the turkish words have more meanings, depending on the context used. Also you will find out that many words will change the meaning when adding suffixes to it.

So if i wrote in Turkish look forward to seeing you in december, thats how it would read not something like look forward to seeing you in toilet. I know it sounds silly, but im afraid i may use the wrong prefix and they havent a clue what im talking about.

I know we use the same word for different meaings in english like for example the word mean could be used to describe a person or it could describe you trying to explain something like in the context i know what you 'mean'.
So it is the same in Turkish yes ? depending on the context, so the person whos reading will know what context it supposed to be used in?? does that sound right?? did when i thought it through in the head haha

yes janette they will know what it means. I have sent emails and texts with words i have seen with multi meanings they always get the meaning. so i know it works -)))

don't worry, one will understand that you don't look forward to see him/her in the toilet , also you could write Aralık with capital A.

Yes i suppose whatever floats ya boat, but im sure the friends i want to write to will think it quite odd im asking a married couple to see them in the toilet, so i think the context needs to be right dont you .
