History in the Depths’ is the story of the stupendous struggle of World War I fought on Turkish land Gallipoli in 1915 that lives to date. The ‘Gallipoli Campaign’ was fought between Turkish and Germans on one side and the Commonwealth army that consisted of British, Australian, New Zealander, Indian and South African allied with the French and Senegal armies on the other, lasted about nine months and cost the lives of over half a million people.

What makes the war remarkable is neither the multitude of the nations involved nor the magnitude of young lives lost on such a small piece of land, but its unique spirit which bonded the soldiers of opposing armies sharing a common tragedy; war. Killing each other during the day, they shared their limited food and helped each other’s wounded during the night. A legend that still lives today and is remembered every April 25th.

Eighty-three long years after the war, the Turkish General Staff granted the permission, for the first time, to dive and film the sacred war graves of the warring nations. The most unique and remarkable underwater footage of the documentary captures the scenes of the sunken British battleships HMS Irresistible, HMS Triumph, HMS Majestic, the trawler Lundy, Anzac landing boats, pinnacles and steam boats, Turkish battleship Mesudiye and many others.

The sixty minute version, of the 5 episode - 30minutes each - documentary of the legendary ‘Gallipoli Campaign’ achieves to bring great rhythm and pace while keeping the fullness of the story and captures the audience from the first minute. The mystery of Gallipoli land battles, the preceding naval assault on the Dardanelles, the trench and submarine warfare, the miraculous withdrawal of the Allies including the not very well known perspective of the Turkish side during their heroic defend, are all revealed for the first time in the documentary ‘History in the Depths’.

GALLIPOLI

(ATATURK, adressing foreign soldiers who fell in Galipoli..and their mothers.

All heroes who lost their lives on this land,
You are here, on friendly grounds. May you all rest in peace and solitude. You lie side by side with all Mehmets (symbolic name for Turkish soldiers).

Mothers who sent their sons here to war, from far away lands,
cry no longer.Your sons lie in our bosom. They are in peace and they shall remain in peace forever.Having died on this land, they are now our sons...
