The purpose of the prayer carpet is so as to provide a clean place to make Salat, the formal Muslim prayers where different body positions are required. It should not be used on the floor for other purposes.
The prayer carpet is kept folded in a particular manner so as to keep the surface ritually clean. If it becomes unclean, it must be cleaned and purified with water in order to be used again.
A prayer carpet can be recognized by the fact that it points in a direction. That way it can be pointed towards Mecca, giving the user the correct direction to follow. Some prayer carpets even have places for the placement of the head, hands and feet.

The advantage of a genuine Turkish flying carpet is that you dont need to hang it, if you want to see it on your wall.
You simply position it on the wall where you want it...It stays there, "flying"
