eksilmek = decrease, be absent, grow less
eksik = deficient, lacking, absent, incomplete
eksiltmek = reduce, diminish
and Atatürk suggested the following using the same root.
eksi = minus (in math)
"eksik olma" literally means "don't be absent" and actually means "your presence is a good thing, helpful to me".

Sorry I did't reply to your greeting. My laptop froze and windows crashed! I waited till the battery ran down, then did a systems clean (AND A BACK UP!!!!) and have just got back!
I'm glad si+++ answered you. Great answer: I didn't know it was Atatürk that suggested eksi for the maths symbol.

Some other words Atatürk himself invented afaik.
Uzay = space
üçgen = triangle
açı = angle
I sometimes have the same problem with my laptop. In that case, I cannot wait for the battery. I just take it off, wait a little and put it back. It works for me.
Is it Vista by any chance? Mine is and I blame it on Vista.
