UNO Convention of Children’s rights has turned 18 today.
How are children’s rights respected in your countries ?
Still in the world
77 million are without proper education,
200 million are starving-according to statistics every 3.6 sec somebody dies of hunger, first of all kids under 5,
every 15 sec a child is dying of thirst and lack of potable water,
8,5 million work as slaves with no rights at all
126 million work in dangerous conditions
27.000 children are dying every single day
250.000 are soldiers in Asia,South America and Africa
number of victims of sexual harrasment, traffic, battery not estimated but still terrifying

" wonderful childhood"

kafe kuksu,
your thread is deadly attractive!
where are those religous people to express their sadness about it? where are those who praise their religios charities and their beautiful quotes from their holy books?
do they show up only to judge the wealthy states and defend empty words carved into their brains?

In Turkey Sokak Çocuklar Derneği is working with other charities to get a Charter of Children's Rights approved. I have just helped them work on some English translations to try to get more notice in Europe, and maybe support and funding for their work. I will post the website address when the site is up and running in English.

Femme, I don't think the suffering of children has much to do with religion....and everything to do with the greed of humans (some of whom claim to be holy). Many of us give very generously to charity, but many charitable organizations are so corrupt and so are the governments that these children live under. I don't care of you have a religion or not. You have to be completely heartless if the suffering of innocent children doesn't bother you.

lisa
first, theres nothing that religion has nothing to do
second, i was pointing out one interesting thing. namely, people here boast about their religions and praise the verses from holy books when its necessary to attract the attention.
but shamefully none of those religion praisers seem notice this thread, thats what really bothers me.
when you talk about tragedies they keep silent and you dont hear them expressing their feelings towards those who suffer. and you know well, that those who suffer are mainly children and women, and you know mainly where it happens (asia and africa)

but
when you touch their religion they all stand up in a defence of barbarian beliefs the way the fathers did killings in the name of so called god. they are proud of killing and conquering the nations with the help of religious slogans that took place in the past.

Unfortunately you happen to be right about where and who is doing most of the suffering. It is just very difficult to know how to help. At this point these people need the very basic things in life and no amount of praying will help them. They need action.

We have problems here in the U.S., however, not to the extreme of slavery, soldiers, working in dangerous conditions. I see more children that are victims of sexual predators more than anything here in the U.S.

What I can't understand, is why women keep having children they can't afford to take care of. If you have problems with starvation, education, working conditions. Why in the world would anyone want to bring another child into this world, knowing what their children will be exposed to.

I not only blame the government, but I also hold these parents somewhat accountable. Where does it start? What is the remedy? Have as many children as you like knowing that they will starve, be put to work and go to war by the time their 12. Then expect the rest of the world to solve your problems...It's so sad..Don't get me wrong, I donate money to charities and have sympathy for these children that are victims of their government and parents.

The saying that children are our future sounds like a slogan here facing all the numbers i quoted from El Pais- govermental Spanish newspaper.Well Safe the children and Unicef organizations are doing their best but people are people and still corruption cases has been revealed, even in these two.Anyway, what shocked me at El Pais account was the number of Spaniards annualy who go to latin America to have sex with underage kids-35.000,
God must be busy not to send lightings and thunders on them!!!!!
