I know that many women have henna designs put on their hands the evening before their marriage. It is an older tradition and not as common as it once was.

Try to focus on the what is being discussed in the thread.
Someday, when I see that you are not picking on someone and replying to a thread just because you would like to positively contribute to it, I will really get surprized.

In a traditional Turkish wedding the night before the bride goes to the home of her husband, the women hold a women's a henna party/ceremony for the bride. Only women attend. A tray with candles and henna is placed over her head and prayers are made. The henna is then put on one hands of the bride. After henna is placed on the bride's hand, all the ladies get some of the bridal henna on their hands. It is considered good luck.
Different Islamic countries have variations on this, but in most Muslim countries the bride gets a henna party the night before she goes to her husbands home.
There is also a henna party in some traditional Hindu weddings.
Sometimes the henna design is very complex, sometimes it's simple. In past days a lace doily was soaked in henna and used to make a design. In some Eastern stores one can buy henna templates.

Let me tell you about Henna tradition of my home-town.
In weddings there is an Kına Gecesi (henna night) before wedding day. Only females attend. They made henna with beautiful decorations to inside and outside of hand. All women and girls can do it that night. But older women do it seldom.
Also men do henna. Traditionally boys who is get circumvented are henna(ed). Unmarried young men can do henna their right little finger at the weddings, especially groom's near-friends.
Another one is the young men who goes to military service can do henna inside of their right hands. To show they are ready to sacrifice their lives to the country if there is need.Yes, I done it also!
