Fener is one of the old suburbs on the Golden Horn, traditionally home to some of the prosperous Greeks of the Ottoman Empire. It is also the seat of the Ecumenical Orthodox Patriarchate. Many of the old mansions have now fallen into ruin, but Fener is still a very atmospheric place to wander around in.
