Turkish President Abdullah Gül broke ground yesterday for a Turkish industrial zone that is being established at November 6 Industry City, 30 kilometers outside the Egyptian capital of Cairo.
During the ceremony Gül said nowadays anyone can access any market in the world and sell merchandise to anyone if they have enough power, and he added that Turkey's industrial zone in Egypt would help Turkey to secure a greater share of global trade.
Gül said he had attended many fruitful meetings during his visit that will further improve the bilateral relations between Turkey and Egypt. He said the meetings addressed not only political issues but also economic affairs and mutual business opportunities.
Today Gül said the governments of both countries should establish positive economic policies and make the necessary reforms to implement these policies. He said Turkey had completed many important reforms and that it has begun to see the fruits of these efforts in the last few years. He added that Egypt has also made crucial reforms and that anyone who gives Egypt a quick glance can see the difference.
The Turkish industrial zone will be built on a 2-million-square-meter plot of land. Twenty large-scale and 100 small and medium-scale companies will operate in the zone and employ around 25,000 people. The resulting investment in the region is expected to be around $1.5 billion. (Zaman)
