Hi

I started going to college one evening a week to learn turkish but unfortunatly I started a new job which made it difficullt for me to get there on time so I decided that I will continue on my own. The problem I have is that I am not in practice enough with the language so I feel as though I have forgotten a lot of what I learnt as I only went for a few months. Can someone advise me on what they think I should do, or give me a few tips? Is it better to just learn as many turkish words as I can for now and then start with the grammar and sebtances or is it better to learn the grammer first?

I really do not know where to start!

Hayley

I am not sure I learn things in the same way as other people.......but for me, I had to learn some grammar before I could even start to understand any of the language.

I would suggest starting with the following lessons from this site:
http://www.turkishclass.com/grammar_vowelHarmony1.htm
http://www.turkishclass.com/grammar_vowelHarmony2.htm
I have written a Practice Tool for the above
http://www.turkishclass.com/grammar_nounStates.htm
http://www.turkishclass.com/grammar_toBe.htm
http://www.turkishclass.com/basic_pronouns.htm

Once you have studied all those you need to practice Türkçe everyday - talk to yourself, to your pets, to your fridge if necessary - just talk and talk and talk more......and post your questions here so people can correct the mistakes that you will of course make.

Hope it works for you

I will be asking lots more questions no doubt so I look forward to more of your advice
