Making Turkish friends

I have heard so many people return from Turkey saying they have made Turkish friends, and I really would like to make some Turkish friends when I go to Turkey next month. Can anybody give me advice on how to make friends with them and if I should ask to write or keep in touch? If you have friends in Turkey, how did that happen? I'm not good at making friends, and I'm shy to ask them if they would like to stay in contact.

I think it is almost impossible to go to Turkey and NOT make friends. Turkish people are the most friendly people I have ever met in the world. Generally they are kind, generous and love to know all about you.

It sounds a bit cynical to say, but in the tourist places, its almost a duty of evry employee to make friends with the guests/customers. Everyone hopes that the guests will come back the following year. Also in the tourist places, there is so much competition betwen bars, restaurants and hotels, that the staff strive to keep you coming back and spending your money with them.

But having said that, what I said before is still true. Turkish people are without a doubt lovely, I have made many friends on holiday and not all of them have a 'tourist' motive to stay friends. you will easily make friends, staying in touch is easy, just give your email address/mobile phone number to the people you meet before you come home and I guarantee they will stay in touch with you.

Have a lovely time and let us all know how you get on. I'm off to Turkey on Friday btw - All you Turkish friends on this site, grab a bus and come down to Icmeler next Sunday and we can meet up for dinner heheh (if only eh?)

Hello to everyone,
I am agree you can't force anyone to be your friend. The other party has to have same feelings for you. That's so true.
I don't know about Turkish people in particular, never been in Turkey but here on site I learned that they are very friendly, kind and helpfull. I like my classmates very much and glad I made so many friends here not only from Turkey but can say all over the world. I look forward to meet them one day in Istanbul. It is my dream.
I am happy for all who made friends here.It is the best gift.
