Back at the uni, when we were discussing the culture of the USA (allegedly there is one), my lecturer said that Americans are somewhat funny in their choices of president. A country with a high ratio of divorce, so many different religions, wants their president to represent the values so few of the society represents. It is unlikely that a single person would win the elections. A spouse is a must. How does this correspond with equal chances for everyone? Can you imagine a gay president for example?
