Well done for trying! Often when you look up a word and it gives more than one meaning you pick the wrong one. I try to explain the difference below.

Also, in English we write lots of separate words. In Turkish we add endings to the word.

e.g. I am well: İyiyim
You tend to write 3 different words. Ben olmak iyi
Instead of İyi-yim.

Check the grammar lessons on this site to learn how Turkish works. Try to start with simple grammar structures e.g. It would have been great to have ... is a complicated piece of grammar. Break the sentences up in to shorter and simpler things e.g. I couldnt speak to you. I was sad about this.

Harf= letter as in alphabet a.b.c etc
Mektup = letter as in a letter you write and post

kuyu= well as in wishing-well or water.
You want to use iyi= good

Umarım ki bu mektup aldığında iyisin.

sol= left as in oposite of right

To say "I hope" say "Umarım ki" Not ben umut.

için means for, and sen means you. But the order of the words in Turkish is different. To say for you, you say senin için.

This is a long sentence in English, and so I think you would have found it easier to break it up into 2 or 3 short sentences. e.g.

I spoke to you family

Your father said yes
Baban evet dedi

He was kind
Çok nazikti.

You are kinda trying to run before you can walk; I am trying to help but think the Turkish sentences are too complicated for you to learn from them when you are at beginners level.
