If all the smokers stopped smoking, the loss of taxes would be monumental....all smokers should stop for a little while to deprive them of the taxes...then what?

This is absolutely nonsensical. Smokers already pay a tax when they buy cigarettes. Unhealthy as smoking is, it is still legal and smokers shouldn't be discriminated against. How about taxing people eating junk food? Or people drinking alcohol extra? I heard that in the Arab Emirates you need a licence with a photo to buy alcohol
NB I'm not saying this because I a a smoker. I'm what we here call "a recycled virgin" i.e. I quit smoking a while ago.
