Here is an extract from a dialogue between two friends. I understand the conversation, but find there is 'gap' ... as a learner I am uncomfortable whether my comprehension is at fault!! Please see if you can explain.

A1. Perde arasi ne kadar? [When's the interval?]
B2. Bir çeyrektir. [At quarter apst one]
A3. Tiyatrodan gece klübüne gidebilir miyiz?
[After the show can we go to the night club?]
B4. Tabii, nasil istersiniz?
[Of course, how do you wish.]
A5. Ziller çaliyor, herhalde temsil başliyacak.
[Bells are ringing, however show is starting]
B6. Guzel eğlenceler. [Enjoy nicely]

Query > There is a question in B4. A5 is not a plausable answer!!! Has the question been avoided due to the starting of the performance? If so, then here is another example [from 'Colloquial Turkish' by Y. Mardin] where a beginner is left in a mist of doubt whether she/he is capable of simple comprehension.

Am I missing something?

Anlatir misiniz, lutfen?

Hello Tazx1,

The problem is, B4 is not a question. It must be "Tabii, nasıl isterseniz."(Of course, as you please(as you wish)) It's written wrong.

Try to read like that, it should be plausable now

(And I've never heard "Güzel eğlenceler" from someone... "İyi eğlenceler" is more suitable)

Faruk Bey, SA

Thank you for your kindness ... these are the little points which a beginner has to struggle with. A small error in print can undermine confidence.

So, in this context 'nasil' > does not mean 'HOW', but 'IN WHATEVER WAY' ... excellent, problem solved, note taken!!

I have also never seen 'guzel eglenceler' >> but seen 'Iyi eglenceler' often mentioned.

I wish my Turkish could be like your English, vallahi! I simply love everything Turkish ...

English benim birinci bir dildir. Ama ensevdigimi, Turkcedir .. ne yazik Turkcem az en. Bildigimi zamana deli gibi koşmiş olan, çok rahatsizimişim.

I don't know if you can understand my Turkish.

If you are in Turkey, come and visit me in Antalya. I have a home there. You are welcome to communicate via 'Private' message, if you wish.
