Mez/maz suffix?!

Can someone explain this suffix to me, with the help of the chorus of this song ?

While listeninig NE KAVGAM BITTI NE SEVDAM by Sezen Aksu (ofcourse ), I heard a suffix that I couldn't place.

I translated the chorus as follows, but I don't understand how to use the mez/maz suffix, how to translate it and when it is used. I just translated it in a way that seemed to suit the song?!?!

Gece bitmez gündüz bitmez
Nights don't seem to finish/pass, Days don't seem to pass
Bu yalnızlık hiç bitmez
This loneliness doesn't seem to pass at all
Ne kavgam bitti ne sevdam
Nor my fight has ended nor my love
Ömür geçer gönül geçmez
Life passes by, love doesn't seem to pass

As you might have noticed, i translated it negatively with 'seem' »» doesn't seem.

I don't know why I did this, I just thought it matched well in the translation.

Can somebody tell me how to translate the mez/maz suffix, when it is used.. and what the other forms are? (1st 2nd 3rd singular, 1st 2nd 3rd plural)

In this chorus only -mez- is used, but I know another song by Sezen, which is called Kalp Unutmaz, so i thought that the mez/maz suffix might go according the small vowel harmony rule.

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply but i still don't understand, I'm sorry . Maybe if you translated your examples, I would understand it better?

Because.. then what would be the difference between:

Gece bitmez
Gece bitmeler

That is negative too, right ?

Both thanks

Ohhh how could i have missed that topic ?!
I guess it is because so far i only used the continues tense and never thought of -mezsin, only of -miyorsun.
How stupid of me!!!

Thanks very much.

So KALP UNUTMAZ means 'The heart doesn't forget'.

I will apply for a pre-scolarship-visa next year and write an application-letter to the course. Then I'll really start to absorb,, now I'm only looking at puzzle-pieces without knowing what picture I am trying to make with them.
