Can somebody tell me the origine of all the words used here? Atatürk said this is one of his speeches and for my essay it is relevant to know how many words of this sentence are Turkish, Arabic or Persian.

Türk milleti demek Türk dili demektir. Türk dili, Türk milleti için kutsal bir hazinedir. (...) Türk dili Türk milletinin kalbidir, zihnidir

kalp, zihin, millet and hazine are arabic. Turk, de, dil, icin, kutsal, and bir are Turkish words. Apparently there isn`t any Persian word here.

I was reading this article the other day. It is about turks and the other languages in Turkey.
http://www.taraf.com.tr/Detay.asp?yazar=12&yz=848(It is Turkish)
A nice historical view about the transformation from multi language/mutli ethnic society to current one..

Will have a look, thanks. Writing a 10 paged essay on the Güneş Dil teorisi, how it was possible that such a ridiculous and radical theory was so broadly accepted by the people and the linguists. Your link might provide some nice background information!

Ah
Maybe you should read all her articles. She is fantastic and brilliant as far as history is concerned.

http://www.taraf.com.tr/Detay.asp?yazar=12&yz=623
in above link, you may find something as well. it tells how ataturk is somehow convinced that we Turks came from this legendary continent called 'Mu' and then he sent an historian to South America to investigate the mayan language to look for possible relation between turks and maya civilisation. (however, it seems like the investigation was not a success, because the historian found only one word 'tepek' which might have come from turkish 'tepe')

Problem is I can only use scientifically accepted works But in my own opinion I can add some of this. I didnt come across that Mu thing though! Have to quickly write a paragraph about the history theory of the Tarih Kurumu, (which helped making the GDT acceptable) and then Im done! Can add that in a note for readers to read as further information though! Thanks!!

Gunes Dil Teorisi was not "broadly" accepted by the people and the linguists. Additonally, the idea was originated by a European, a Chezch in fact, and not by a Turk. Regarding linguists at that era, you should keep in mind that the discipline of linguistics had barely been born. The only linguists that cherished the idea were primarily from Germany, Sweden and Russia. It would be years before Turkey produced its eraly linguists for the discipline of linguistics really started in Europe first, and such theories were originating from Europe, not Turkey.
