Mare Nostrum (Latin-->Eglish : Our Sea) Our Deniz - Bizim Deniz

Year is 1972, May the 6. the time is 00:30.
Location is Ankara Mamak Cezaevi (mamak prison of ankara)
First they took Deniz from his cell and put heavy schackles around his ankles and tied his hands from the back (it was the last time he saw his hands).
He could not walk properly and a soldier lifted the metal to help him to walk. He said farewell to his friends by shouting..
Two of his friends, Yusuf and Huseyin were treated in the same way and they were brought to Merkez Cezaevi (central prison in Ankara) with military vans.

They were placed in separate rooms. Deniz; last cigarete, last letter to his father (he spoke and somebody wrote) and then his lawyers entered the room..A huge smile and 'hosgeldiniz' from him.

Lawyers went to the room where Yusuf was held..Again a huge smile. He asked if his father knew about the execution and the answer was yes.
Yusuf insisted to see Deniz once more. Despite the protest from the execution prosecuter-he said 'is it really necessary?'- and the argument of 'last wish' by the lawyers, he is taken to the room where Deniz was held.

They tried to hug each other but both of them had their hands tied from their back. Instead, they kissed each other on the cheek and looked at each other without saying a word..They said their farewell with their eyes and smiled at each other. Then, at the same time they looked at the others as if to say 'tamam'.
Same farewell was repeated between Huseyin and Deniz, then Yusuf and Huseyin.

First was Deniz, they wanted to take the shackles but they forgot the bring the man. So they waited for another 15 mins for the man with the keys.

He asked them to tie his boots' laces. He said 'they will drop from the gallows'. He also told his lawyers that his parka should be given to his brother.
They put a special white dress on him and he walked with strong steps towards the gallows after saying 'hoscakal' to his lawyers and looking around bitterly.
He climbed to the top of the table with the help of officers and on a little stool by himself; tried to put his head into the noose .
When they pulled the stool away, he was chanting loudly and the time was 01:25.
His last words could not come out from his mouth (and they were : "Long live the People of Turkey's independence, long live the great ideology of Marxist-Leninism, long live the brotherhood of Turkish and Kurdish people, damn imperialism").
He was declared dead at 02:15.

Second was Yusuf. Again, his chanting was interrupted by the executioner. He was dead at 02:50.
His last words were : "I am dying with my hounor only once for my country's welfare and freedom. You, who are hanging us here, will die everyday without honor. We are in the service of our people. you are the servents of America. Long live revolutionists, damn fascism"

Huseyin heard the uncompleted chantings while waiting his turn. He uttered his words before they put the noose on. And then he himself kicked the stool. 03:00 am.
His last words were "I fought for my country's welfare and freedom without any expectations. I am leaving this flag with turkish people. Long live workers, villagers and long live revolutionists, damn fascism"

Deniz Gezmis was 25 (law student in Istanbul University), Yusuf Aslan (student in middle east technical university) was 25 and Huseyin Inan (student in middle east technical university) was 23 years old.
They never killed anybody.

The state once more was saved by executing these youngsters.

The world knows the people who stood unshaken in front of death for the sake of their belief and for a better future.
Because some deaths belong to whole world.

Many poems written and many songs composed for them..
I tried to translate some of them previously..

Erdal Öz, a famous Turkish novelist, wrote a book ( a memory-novel ) about Deniz Gezmiş, Hüseyin İnan and Yusuf Aslan= "Gülünün Solduğu Akşam".

I was not aware that Turkey uses hanging for the death penalty. I had no idea about these persons, i.e. Deniz:
