Is this a correct way of using yok or should the sentence be structured differently???

Yok/var means "there is/there is not", expressing something tangible. You also use it when you want to express that you have or don't have something.

Çok insan var - there are a lot of people
Arabam var - I have a car
Evim yok - I don't have a house

"Değil" is used for a characteristic, a state, a feeling, for example: "Hasta değilim" - I am not ill.
