How could we translate this Ottoman-Turkish proverb into English?
Akil ile sohbet, lal-ü mercan gibidir;
cahil ile sohbet, sonunda can incitir.

Quoting yilgun-7: How could we translate this Ottoman-Turkish proverb into English?
Akil ile sohbet, lal-ü mercan gibidir;
cahil ile sohbet, sonunda can incitir. |
Conversation with wise, like garnet coral;
Conversation with ignorant, will hurt at last.
I did a short search and find it with a small difference:
Âlim ile sohbet etmek lâl-ü mercan incidir,
Cahil ile sohbet etmek günde bin can incitir.
Conversation with wise is garnet coral, pearl,
Conversation with ignorant hurts a thousand life in a day.

I can't think of a similar proverb in English but imagine it would be something like:
Conversation with a wise man is like a precious jewel
Conversation with a fool is like a lifetime of misery
